Review

David O. Selznick's production of Margaret Mitchell's Pulitzer Prize winner Gone With The Wind is "the pinnacle of Hollywood moviemaking,"( Leonard Maltin of Entertainment Tonight) . And in Maltin's view, "it looks better than it has in years." This sweeping Civil War-era romance won an impressive 10 Academy Awards (including Best Picture), and its immortal characters Scarlett (Vivian Leigh), Rhett (Clark Gable), Ashley (Leslie Howard), Melanie (Olivia de Havilland), Mammy (Hattie McDaniel) and Prissy (Butterfly McQueen) populate as epic story of enduring appeal across generations.

Please note: this film is spread over discs 1 and 2 for optimum visual and audio performance.

Gone with the wind is up there with all the greats like casablanca and citizen kane as one of the best films ever. Full of quotable lines like "frankly my dear, i don't give a damn" and "as god as my witness i will not go hungry again". It has two of the greatest main characters ever with fiery scarlett o hara(vivian leigh) and rhett butler(clark gable). They both play off each other so well. Many of cinemas iconic moments happen too with the burning of atlanta and killing of the soldier by scarlett. Never mind those people who call it overblown and over rated, this is a true classic. Buy this whatever the price

This is a sweeping masterpiece; a sprawling epic; an unhinged classic that follows the story of Scarlett O'Hara - a Southern belle who lived through the trials and tribulations of the American Civil War. Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable are astonishing as Scarlett and Rhett - portrayals that are in perfect keeping with Margaret Mitchell's timeless novel, and the supporting cast are equally as perfect in a film that truly set the standards for big budget movie-making.
The story is essentially an account of the South before, during and after the Yankee invasion and how the plantations and long historic bloodlines are affected and destroyed by the Civil War and its tragic overspill. One of the most influential films ever made and thus a must-have for any prestigious movie collection.

For seventy years this film above all has been regarded as the greatest film in Hollywood history and there's a reason for that,it's true.Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable lead perhaps the greatest cast ever in a film.Set during the Civil War it tells the story of Scarlett O'hara a young woman who on the face of it isn't likeable but shows great courage and heart during terrible times. In its day it was the biggest film to be made and raised the bar in the world of film. There's a lot of people who like to call it 'over- rated' but they're just saying it for effect.
In recent years there have been many immitations of this masterpiece but all fail in comparison.
The bonus features in this glorious boxset also stand on their own, they include a making of documentary narrated by one of the stars Olivia De Havilland 10/10
